Sex and Spiritual Growth

No doubt, human being has evolved from animal kind. So, to have the instinct of the animals is quite common and natural. But, in the case of a human, this sexual instinct is stronger when compared to an animal. If you had observed dogs, you would find its sexual instinct going to a peak in a particular season (breeding season) and coming down naturally. But, in the case of a human being, this instinct may be strong in all seasons of a year. So, are we worse than animals? A big No!! A human being has more free will compared to an animal. The evolution of animal and plant kingdom is mostly taken care of by the nature. But, once the process of individualization happens, humans are given a lot of free will and the responsibility of further spiritual evolution rests upon the individual effort.

The sexual energy and the spiritual growth are directly related. Sexual energy fuels spiritual development. It is for this reason, the human being is granted with a strong sexual urge. But, this urge becomes a barrier for the spiritual growth, if one does not learn how to utilize it properly. Yes.. It has to be learned. It is sad that we are not naturally given the art of handling this high potential energy. It becomes a boon only when one learns the art. Until then, it is more of a bane.

Sexual energy is like a raw energy, but in a readily available form. There are seven major chakras in our system and each chakra has got it characteristic role. The entire character and functioning of the human being depends on how far these chakras are functioning. If the lower chakras are more active when compared to the higher chakras, a human being is considered less evolved. When the lower chakras are more active, more of animal instincts would be present. As the spiritual evolution happens, pure love starts blooming and the game of life is better understood in the later stages. For this evolution to happen, it is necessary that the sexual energy is transmuted and utilized for the opening of higher chakras.

Let us take a simple example to understand a great truth. You have a big tank of water at the base of a building. It is a seven storied building. You have to lift the water from the ground floor to the top floor. You are given some fuel to burn but no apparatus to lift it. What you could do is simply boil the water and allow the vapor to move upward (in this example you have been given a metal tube). Let us get back to the topic. In the real life scenario, the vapor would be directly utilized. There is no need to condense it back to water form. You could just consider the sexual vital fluid as water, and fit it in the example to understand the truth in a simplified form.

In the case of human being, the same happens. When the sexual urge is strong enough, the sexual vital fluid is converted to a more subtle form, you could say more like a vapor and in this state, it could more easily be transmuted or transported to the upper chakras. So, naturally, a human being is supposed to progress spiritually during the times of sexual urge and transcend the urge as he evolves. This is why human being is given a strong sexual urge. But this happens, only when the channel (the sushumna) is open enough. For that, the higher chakras need to be functioning properly. This does not happen in the worldly human as the channel is generally not functional completely as we are more held up with the worldly affairs (relating to the lower chakras).

So, we are in a situation, where this entire process has to be understood and action taken from our part for the progress to happen. For this, one needs to learn the proper techniques to open up the higher chakras and the channel and channel the sexual energy through right strategies to evolve further.
